Scouting

Headed out midmorning to do a quick scouting trip in the bay looking for Bull Reds.  Even though the temp was LOW we found some eager to eat a fly.
Our bays are in great shape right now. We should have some really good fishing for the  remainder of winter.

"Redbones" on the LOW Tide

It's good to be back home in N. Florida chasing our local "redbones"in skinny water.  These fish are some of my favorite and most rewarding flats fish that we pursue. The tides have been crazy low and the water air clear making the hunt for these shy critters very rewarding.  I've been enjoying running my smaller skiff with clients,  putting the sneak on these fish all week. They get extremely shallow putting their back out and tail frequently. You're not gonna catch any giants here but when conditions line up the shots are frequent and very visual.  If you make it down this winter come along and let me share a really cool fly fishing experience.

42

December's cold temps brought in some giant fish.

The largest fish of the season came on the 2nd. day of fishing with long time friend Rob Rogers owner of Deep South Outfitters in Birmingham, AL.  After multiple fish weighing in the upper 30's a 42lb. fish came to hand. A special fish and an even better couple days of fishing.

Visit from Bozeman

I'm back home in Florida gearing up for Christmas and catching up on pics.  Laura and Jake came down from Bozman MT. for a few days to chase redfish. I had a great time sharing the marsh with them.

November in the Marsh

November has consisted of a non stop flow of weather fronts. This made each day interesting. With a combination of dark clouds and heavy wind to work with, I had to dig into the playbook. Luckily we found plenty of big fish floating around to shoot at.   Anytime we had a couple hours of sunlight we made sure to capitalize.

Raz and Bob

Fishing continues to be strong throughout the many approaching fronts. Raz Reid and Bob Branham joined me for several days of great sight fishing.  We field tested several of Umpqua's new fly patterns. All of the new poppers Raz brought did not survive.. I had a great time fishing these guys.
