This past week I have been teaching several newcomers the fly rod. It is always rewarding helping someone catch their first saltwater fish on fly.

Spring Breakin'
For the last couple weeks I've been fishing a non-stop flow of Spring Breakers. Some old and some new clients. We've had many different species each day (Pompano, Redfish, Spanish Macks, Bluefish, Skip Jack, Jack Crevalle, Speckled Trout, Black Drum and a shot at a Cobia to name a few). I have also had several kiddos on the boat. This is a change from the norm and I've had alot of fun seeing them get so excited to be outdoors.

Redfish, Redfish, Redfish
Fished with Gary Davis from Heber Springs, AR./Memphis TN., a couple days this week. We enjoyed great weather & good fishing. We sight fished and caught several fine Redfish on fly and a pile of mackerels to boot.
Tom Chambers and his daughter Claire came down from Alabama for Spring Break. Claire had a fly casting lesson with me back in Feb. and she got both her first redfish and first fish on fly. Proud moment for both Tom and I. Good job Claire!

Cheers
I fished Bob Cheers and his grandson Jimmy from Virginia yesterday. We enjoyed a fine Spring day on the Emerald Coast. Jimmy works for the Orvis company up in Roanoke and knows his way around a fly rod. We sight fished a school of Bull Reds over a grass flat getting 2 eats before he roped his largest red on fly. Believe it or not this was one of the smaller fish in the school.. We had alot of laughs and caught a bunch of fish.

"Out Front"
February provided some very cool sight fishing "Out Front" on the Beach. The North winds had our beaches slick calm and air clear. False Albacore would occasionally beach themselves chasing bait onto the shoreline. Bull Reds were schooled up in the trough. I attached a link to a video David and I shot a couple weeks back. It highlights the action we have been experiencing with our clients. He does an awesome job behind the lens.
All that has changed now that March has arrived. Warm Southerly breezes will push Cobia and Massive schools of 20lb. Jacks onto our beaches. I'm ready....

Jeff's New Rig
Capt. Jeff Ragland and I took his newly restored Sea Craft out of Destin and got some Stink on it. What a cool boat! Conditions were a little bumpy and it handled the chop perfectly.
