Youngsters

Pat Worsham brought his boys over for spring break and a couple days fishing with me.  They are a handful and a lot of fun.  I had a great time watching these two reel in fish.  Our mission was simple, have FUN!

Slack Tide Guide Gathering / Glades

Last week David Mangum and I took a road trip down top Jensen Beach to attend the first annual Slack Tide Guide Gathering.  This event was held by Hells Bay Boatworks, Simms, Yeti Coolers and Costa Del Mar.  We arrived late to a bonfire with all the event staff. It was good to catch up with everyone.  We attended event the next day then slid over to Chokoloskee in the Glades to visit and fish with one of my best friends Andy Lee owner of Grassroots Guiding.  We had a great time catching Snook, Redfish and getting a couple shots on Laid up Tarpon.  It was a nice change standing on the pointy end of the boat.

Spring Breakin'

Spring Break is in full swing and we are running at full capacity!  Chase Blalock with Hunt Big Outdoors along with Jimmy Cheers joined me for the last two days of fishing.  Fishing was a little slow at first but we managed to get Chase his first redfish along several others.  As the water temp increases fishing will only get better.

Wind, Redfish & Whitetail Romance

Brice and Hampton came to Destin escaping cooler temps. Brice left 2 feet of snow behind in Denver.  Although it blew 20+ knots all day, the sun was out and it warmed up nicely. We had to cover a lot of water to find a quiet spot to fish.   As we poled quietly into a creek, we got a front row seat of a big buck chasing a doe through the marsh. With his head down like a bloodhound, he ran her back and forth through the spartina and into the pines.  They crossed the creek several times totally unaware of our presence. It was a cool show and one I haven't witnessed before in March.

You can't catch em sittin' on the couch!

Had the pleasure of fishing my good friends and clients Wes (pictured) and Rusty from Auburn, AL.  yesterday (WAR EAGLE).  I like to joke with Wes, if you want to see tough fishing conditions find out what day Wes has booked.  Yesterday was no exception.  It was freezing cold, windy and clouded out.  You couldn't ask for better guys to fish with in those conditions. They are tough and have a never quit attitude.  We pulled it off, catching several nice reds.  You can't catch em sittin' on the couch!

February Redfishing

February is clicking right along.  Between fronts the fishing has been consistent.  Yesterday I fished Bobby Cheers of Mountain Sports Limited in Bristol VA.  The fish pictured came out of a large school of tailers up in 7 inches of water.  When the fly landed "It looked like you rolled a wine bottle into a jail cell"-Lefty

Light Lines & Long Casts

Lately, I've have been on the water everyday. It has been cold, but the redfish have been tailing well.  Friday, I fished good friend and client, John Watts.  We had gorgeous slick conditions and bright blue cloudless skies. For several hours, we had non stop shots at tailers.  John had to bring his A-game due to the calm conditions. He made some great casts, catching several nice reds. We finished the day casting to bull reds on the beach.  After several fly changes and a few eats, John connected with a nice one.

We had an awesome group in Saturday's Emerald Coast Fly Fishing School.  If you would like to join us, we still have availability in the February 27th class.
